I am fascinated by the medicinal values and health benefits of plants, shrubs, leaves, spices, seeds and so on. They are around us, they are everywhere, they are in our backyard, and they are in our kitchen. We don’t recognize them and we don’t realize their potential health benefits. In fact our kitchen is a warehouse of medicines. There are medicines available around us, in the nature, for any decease. The spices racked up in our kitchen can cure many deceases including several types of cancers! Spices are widely used in Indian culinary. Daily consumption of spices strengthens immune system and fight with deceases.
Human tongue is capable of sensing seven types of flavors viz., sweet, sour, salty, bitter, pungent, astringent & umami. In India, specifically Southern India, a lunch is prepared with these seven types of flavors. The ingredients used in the preparation of food act as a firewall against intruding any decease into our body and expels all existing deceases and keep our body in healthy condition. This was in practice once upon a time in olden days. This had almost disappeared during recent times. Not many of us know about this special lunch.
Even I was not aware of many of the facts about natural remedies. During olden days i.e., my child hood days my grandma suggests remedies from kitchen store items, for small ailments, cold, fever, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation and lot more. These are forgotten during modern days.
Let me share an event happened during my college days. I was attacked by jaundice and I was on bed for more than a month. I was taking medications but it could not be controlled. Following diet, changing medicines were no use. After a month, internal bleeding started and blood got mixed with urine and stools. I think that was the final stage of jaundice. No medicines are working and I was counting my days on earth. One day I had received a parcel containing several plant stems with green leaves. My sister discussed about me, with a Professor in Medical College expert in Ayurvedic Medicine. As per his advice, she had collected specified plants and sent to me. She said these plants can be found everywhere and suggested me to use them till I get relieved from the decease. A deep concoction is to be prepared out of the leaves and a dosage of 30ml should be taken once a day. After end of first day, internal bleeding stopped. After end of the second day I was on my feet. On the third day I was totally normal and there are no traces of jaundice! I was amazed by the power of the leaves which cured my illness in just three days! To my surprise, the plant was spotted in my backyard and I could find them everywhere!
That is the beauty of nature. My intention is to uncover the health facts of daily eatables, plants, leaves, flowers, spices etc. I thought blog is one of the media through which I can share my knowledge to masses.
