Generally we tend to avoid chilies / hot peppers because of their hot, spicy, pungent and burning taste. Despite this, there are numerous health benefits that can be reaped. It is widely used in Indian culinary because of their health facts.

Fiber is not digested in the body and adds bulk to the stool. It absorbs water from the stool and solidifies. Bulky stool is easy to pass through.

A chemical compound called capsaicin present in green chilies imparts the hot and burning taste. It also causes burning feeling wherever it comes into contact with skin. After handling chilies, if the eyes are rubbed with the hand, eyes get burned. Green chilies boost metabolism and burn excess fat which lead to weight loss. Capsaicin present in green chilies is a natural fat burner and also lowers body temperature. It also fights with gastric ulcer. It brings down the levels of bad cholesterol and clears out cholesterol deposits in the arteries. It expands arteries which improves blood circulation and keeps heart in good condition. It is used in medicines as pain reliever. It is also used in pepper spray which can burn eyes when sprayed.

Eating too many chilies can cause irritation in the lining of stomach.
It may also cause skin irritation. Hands may experience burning sensation after cutting and handling of green chilies.
High levels capsaicin in green chilies may be toxic to human body.
